200 tax officials under investigation – FG

About 200 tax officials are currently being investigated following tips received through the Federal Government’s whistle blowing policies.

 

Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, Nigeria’s Finance minister disclosed this and revealed the offences which range from under declaration of taxes as well as demand by taxpayers and receipt of gratifications by tax officials.

 

According to a statement by Oluyinka Akintunde, her Special Adviser, Media & Communications, already, two senior tax officials in Delta and Benue states based on verified tips from whistle-blowers have been suspended.

 

“These practices include demands for personal gratification by tax officers, promise to procure backdated tax clearance certificates, and offer to conspire to reduce taxes payable.

 

“The ministry is currently analysing over 200 additional whistleblowing tips including recordings between tax officials and potential taxpayers in which various practices, designed to reduce tax payable, were detailed,” she stated.
