Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has ordered the regularization of police officers deployed to political office holders in a view to allow for more of its personnel to carry out their constitutional duties.
It would be recalled that the Police Service Commission had a few weeks ago lamented the high number of police personnel deployed for VIP protection in the country.
In a briefing yesterday in Abuja, the IG said a memo will be forwarded to the President for approval which will serve as a guideline or template for deployment to VIP, Political and Public office holders in the country.
βAccordingly, a directive for withdrawal of all police officers deployed to VIPs, political and public office holders, with immediate effect, is hereby given.
βThis directive includes business entrepreneurs, Multi-National companies as well as corporate individuals.β
If you look at section 214 of the Constitution the CPs in states Commands have the supervisory role over the policemen there, and all activities affiliated to security is their responsibility,β he said.
He said state CPs are to profile and recommend if such applicants merit the services for approval.
