Popular Kaduna Islamic cleric Sheik Zakzaky of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria IMN has finally being arraigned in a Kaduna state High Court.

Sheik Zakzaky and his wife are being arraigned on eight counts of alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, disturbance of public peace, among other allegations.

The cleric who according to one of his supporters has been in incarceration for about 880 days without access to good medical facilities even in the face of his failing health was taken driven from Abuja to Kaduna amidst tight security.

“It is exactly 880 days since our leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky has been detained illegally in Abuja. It is also exactly two weeks now when a court summon was presented to him on some trumped up charges and he refused to accept the papers, demanding that the authorities first do the right thing, which is to obey the court order granting him his freedom.

“We call on the federal and Kaduna State Governments to as a matter of urgency obey the judgment of the Abuja court and release the Sheikh for peace to reign,” a supporter was quoted as saying.
