Yabatech shuts down student accommodations, due to COVID-19 death

The academic board of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has confirmed the death of the College Director, Academic Planning Unit, Mr. M.A.O Omoighe, on Sunday following complications from COVID-19. The board on Tuesday, instructed every member of staff in the Academic Planning Unit and the medical center to proceed on two weeks self-isolation.

Also, the board ordered the institution to be shut down, ordered all lecturers to deliver lectures online with immediate effect and all students to vacate the hotels latest Thursday, January 28, 2021.

The academic board recommended the following precautions: “The College should resort to online teaching immediately,

“Lecturers should provide lecture notes to students beforehand and utilize the online period for explanations of the lecture notes,

 “Lecturers are to adopt acceptable modality for the online lecturing. The Centre for Information Technology and Management (CITM) and the Flexible Skill Development (FSD) should work out improved modalities to enhance e-learning in the college.

“Any meeting of more than 10 persons should be held virtually. Students should vacate the hotels latest Thursday, January 28, 2021.

“Management will decontaminate the institution. Offices are to operate at half capacity by alternating the days all administrative staff should come to the office.

“The academic planning unit should be closed down for two weeks. All staff of the unit should go on isolation for two weeks.

“The medical Centre to also shut down for two weeks,” the statement added.
