The Federal Government through the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has begun the construction of Remote Controlled multi-rotor drones.
The multi-rotor drones or helicopters which would be designed and constructed by NASRDA are aimed at fighting insurgency in the country.
Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Adeleke Mamora made this known at a media parley in Abuja where he presented his scorecard.
Mamora added that apart from using the helicopters for defence and intelligence gathering, the government is also making use of the country’s satellites in space for monitoring.
His words, “The ministry, through the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) been able to put in place arrangements for a planetarium and broadband facility.
“The other project being worked upon is with a United Kingdom company for the development, management and financing of a Science part. This will increase the deployment of research and development as well as create employment in the country.
“The ministry through the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) has commenced the process of designing and construction of RC helicopters, the helicopters can be used to fight and control insurgency as well as address other national needs. Of course one of the problems we have in the country at the moment is insurgency and one of the things we need to combat all these is intelligence gathering. That is why we put satellites in space so that we can monitor the movement of individuals from one place to the other.”
