The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Idris Wase, announced on Friday that President Muhammadu Buhari has given his signature to 16 constitutional amendment bills, which grant more power to the states.

The bills cover a range of topics, including financial independence for state houses of assemblies and the state judiciary, as well as the transfer of railway, prison, and electricity from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent list.

Additionally, the president has signed a bill that obligates the president and governors to provide the Senate or State House of Assembly with the names of nominees for ministerial or commissioner positions within 60 days of their inauguration, for confirmation.

The new law means that President-elect Bola Tinubu will have to announce his cabinet within two months of his swearing-in on May 29. Wase commended Buhari for signing the bills into law.
