The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, is embroiled in a fresh controversy as reports of having dual citizenship have surfaced.
The issue became a trending topic on Twitter after popular journalist David Hundeyin shared a copy of the bio-page of a Guinea Conakry passport belonging to Tinubu.
The development could portend trouble for Tinubu whose emergence as the President-elect is being challenged in court.
Per online reports, the Guinea Conakry passport was discovered during a routine investigation into the financial assets of Nigerian politicians.
A source who spoke with The Trent claims to have verified the passport’s authenticity, which raises questions about Tinubu’s eligibility to hold public office in Nigeria.
The foreign passport issue could bring another major hindrance to Tinubu’s presidency as he could be accused of perjury owing to his not disclosing the information in the forms submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
While sharing the image of the passport on his Twitter page, Hundeyin said that Tinubu stated that he has not obtained any other citizenship.
According to the award-winning journalist, Tinubu is guilty of perjury as he lied under oath.
“On Tinubu’s INEC EC9 declaration, he stated that he has not obtained any other citizenship.
“But he has Guinean citizenship, with his Guinean passport stating clearly that he was born in Nigeria – which means he obtained Guinean citizenship.
“This is perjury. Lying under oath”, the post reads.
