Kenneth Omeruo has attributed Nigeria’s victory against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone to concentration and focus from the players.
The Super Eagles defeated their hosts 3-2 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia, on Sunday night, to earn a place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire.
Victor Osimhen gave the Super Eagles a two-goal lead before Sierra Leone rallied back through Mustapha Bundu and Augustine Kargbo.
Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho however netted the winning goal for Jose Peseiro’s side deep into stoppage time.
“Concentration is very important. The game would have died in the first half. There was a very clear penalty that was not given. That would have killed the game. But, still, we must always stay focused until the end,” Omeruo said at the post match press conference.
Omeruo, who plays for Spanish Segunda club, Leganes, further reflected on the game.
“It was a difficult game; we knew they were going to fight because it is the only opportunity they have to qualify. But, I am happy we kept our heads until the end, and we were able to win the game, so I am happy,” he added.
