The Nigerian Army says its troops have rescued 24 victims abducted from a location in Zamfara State.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director, Army Public Relations, in a statement on Friday night, said the troops also eliminated some of their abductors during exchange of fire.
He said, “troops of 223 Battalion, operating under Sector 1 of Joint Task Force, North West Operations Hadarin Daji have rescued 24 kidnap victims, including a child, after a shootout with notorious bandits at Kabugu Lamba, an abandoned village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara state.”
According to the statement, the troops, who were led by the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, during exchange of fire with the bandits, killed four bandits, rescued nine female, 14 male victims, including a minor, adding that all the rescued victims have been evacuated from the bandits’ hideout.
