A federal indictment is pending against former president Donald Trump for his alleged involvement in an effort to rig the 2020 presidential election results.

Special Counsel Jack Smith has issued an indictment that includes four felony counts. The charges allege that Trump obstructed a basic democratic process in order to stay in power.

Conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy against rights, conspiracy to hinder an official procedure, and impeding an official proceeding are among the accusations listed in the 45-page indictment.

In an attempt to weaken democracy, prosecutors believe that Trump spread false allegations of election fraud, put pressure on officials to tamper with the results, and encouraged the violent attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
