Soldiers led the ousted President Bazoum of Niger out of the Presidential Villa after he signed his letter of resignation.

Since mutinous troops deposed the democratically elected president of Niger, imprisoned him, and replaced him with Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani, regional tensions have risen.

Tchiani, who oversaw the presidential guard, is charged with organizing the uprising alongside several other members of his squad.

With soldiers in front, behind, and beside him, the ousted president left the presidential mansion.

ECOWAS, West Africa regional block had given the soldiers who seized power in Niamey on July 26 a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate Bazoum or face the potential use of force, but the coup leaders defied the warning.

Having defiled ECOWAS orders to reinstall President Bazoum as the democratically elected president of Niger, Niger’s military coup leaders announced the appointment of Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine as prime minister.

The announcement was made on Monday evening in a statement read out on national television, at a time when the international community is seeking to restore constitutional order in the country.

On Tuesday, The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced further sanctions in response to the Niger Republic coup.

There have been speculations that the new sanctions against Niger come in financial terms.
