Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, cordially welcomed Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran, the dynamic duo from the Super Falcons, to his hometown of Ede on Sunday, August 13, 2023. Following their involvement in the present FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, they were given a reception.
Nigeria’s participation in the competition came to an end last week with a 4-2 loss to England in a penalty shootout in the round of 16. After the team left, Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran were also a part of the group that went back to Nigeria.
A video showcasing the Governor’s lively dance with these two players garnered viral attention on Sunday.
Subsequently, Governor Adeleke took to Twitter to announce and celebrate the hosting of these two athletes, who share roots with Osun State. He stated, “This morning (On Sunday), I received Osun State born Nigeria Super Falcons players, Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran. I commended their efforts during their time in the tournament and restated our admin commitment to the growth of the girl-child and sport development in Osun State.”
In a thoughtful gesture, the Governor had dialed Ajibade a day prior to extend his congratulations for her representation of Nigeria and to coordinate the reception event.
Notably, Ajibade had missed the initial goalless draw against Canada, but she demonstrated remarkable prowess in the subsequent matches for the Falcons throughout the competition. Her contributions included two crucial assists during the thrilling 3-2 victory against co-hosts Australia, along with a noteworthy penalty goal during the shootout against England.
Imuran, on the other hand, was an unused substitute throughout the tournament.
