The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) has received praise from President Bola Tinubu for its show of unity over the current crisis in the Niger Republic.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Tinubu expressed his appreciation.
According to the statement, the President made the comment while hosting Hermann Immongault, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon, and Special Envoy of President Ali Bongo Ondimba at State House in Abuja.
As the Chairman of ECCAS, President Ondimba’s special message and support, in Tinubu’s opinion, demonstrate support for the decisions made by ECOWAS regarding the coup in Niger.
I appreciate the solidarity and support of President Bongo on the situation in Niger. We are working not to compound the problem. We have well-meaning people who have intervened,β Tinubu stated.
Speaking further, he noted that he understands the fear of the people over any military action while adding that ECOWAS is working to ensure that the sanctions on Niger are in place.
Tinubu further expressed his approvalΒ that ECCAS agrees with ECOWAS on interference in democratic governance not being acceptable.
