On Sunday night at Osasuna, a late penalty by Robert Lewandowski gave Barcelona a slender 2-1 victory.

If Frenkie De Jong and Lewandowski had not missed the goal, Barcelona should have scored first within the first two minutes of the game.

Both teams came close to breaking the tie, but an alert Marc-Andre ter Stegen blocked Aimar Oroz’s shot.

Jules Kounde then headed Ilkay Gundogan’s corner into the goal to give Barcelona the lead just before halftime.

The momentum switched in the second half, with Osasuna starting the better of the two sides.

Their pressure would pay off in the 76th minute when Ezequiel Avila drew them level, arrowing one into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

With the game levelled, Barca pushed forward looking to snatch a win and they were awarded a penalty when Lewandowski was taken down by Alejandro Catena inside the Osasuna box.

Catena was sent off for the foul and Lewandowski made no mistake from 12 yards to restore Barcelona’s lead in the 85th minute.

The win moved Barcelona back to third place in the early standings, two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
