The federal government and the authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) still need to finalize the agreement agreed on the visa ban for nationals of Nigeria, according to the presidency.

Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, provided the explanation in a statement on Tuesday in response to feedback following reports that the ban had been revoked.

The presidents of the two countries “finalised a historic agreement, which has resulted in the immediate cessation of the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers,” according to a prior statement by Ngelale.

But in its report on the meeting between President Tinubu and his UAE counterpart Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE did not confirm or deny the end of the visa ban.

“The two leaders will work together to reinforce ties between the UAE and Nigeria for the benefit of both countries.

“Explored opportunities for further bilateral collaboration in areas that serve both countries’ sustainable economic growth, including the economic, development, energy, and climate action fields,” the UAE stated.

Sharing an update on Tuesday, Ngelale disclosed that both authorities need to work out the details of the agreement for the process to work.

“Given the agreement struck between the two Heads of State, there is a need to allow cabinet officials from both sides to work out the finer details and finalize the cross-sectoral agreements.

“Everyone can now allow the process to work itself out organically, devoid of speculation,” he said.
