Vanguard reports that President Bola Tinubu met with a group of five Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors late on Tuesday. The delegation included four former and one current governor and was led by Nyesom Wike.
It was discovered that the meeting was preceded by one that was held at Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike’s Abuja residence.
Wike escorted his former colleagues to the Presidential Villa shortly after the meeting so they could speak with President Tinubu.
The talk was about the working relationship between the president and the prior governors, albeit the specifics of the meeting were unclear due to the late hour of reporting.
“The G-5 PDP Governors first met in Wike’s residence for a few hours before heading to the Villa to meet with the president,” said a source with knowledge of the meeting, who asked to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to comment on the matter.
I don’t have access to the specifics of what was discussed at this time, but based on conversations that took place during the original meeting at Wike’s house, it was all about how to accommodate the former governors in the overall scheme of things and, of course, how they can cooperate.
According to the source, there was growing tension over the position of party secretary when the former governors met with President Tinubu just 24 hours before the launch of the Imo State PDP governorship campaign in Owerri.
Participants at the meeting were former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, his counterpart from Abia State Okezie Ikpeazu, and current Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
