President Bola Tinubu has promised to dedicate at least N18 billion to pay Group Life Assurance benefits to soldiers who died while performing their duties, as the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day approaches.
The fund would also cover additional costs and benefits for the families of Nigerian Armed Forces heroes who have lost their lives in combat.
At the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, the President made the promise during the official opening of the Emblem Appeal Fund for the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
By realigning the Army, Tinubu further pledged his administration’s ongoing support for the country’s armed forces.
“We are indebted to our brave soldiers, who have taken on the responsibility of safeguarding this magnificent country.
“To show our gratitude for the men and women who serve in our armed forces and to emphasize our government’s commitment to their welfare, I have approved the payment of N18 billion to the families of service members who lost their lives while performing their duties in order to fulfill their entitlements under Group Life Assurance and other benefits.”
