In Sunday’s derby, Manchester City humiliated Manchester United 3-0, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and providing an assist.

The match at Old Trafford was mostly one-sided because the hosts seldom showed that they could compete with their rivals, who took the lead right away.

After 26 minutes, Rasmus Hojlund was given a penalty for dragging down Rodri, and VAR intervened to give City the lead.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana was taken aback by Haaland’s spot-kick conversion.

The lead should have been doubled on the stroke of half-time but Onana produced a brilliant save to deny Haaland a second from a far-post header.

Haaland would not be denied a second four minutes after the break as he headed home a perfect cross from Bernardo Silva to increase City’s lead.

The Norwegian then turned provider 10 minutes from time, setting up Phil Foden to tap home from close range and wrap up a convincing victory.

City are now third in the early standings, behind Arsenal only on goal difference, while United are in eight place and eight points adrift from the top four.
