The Department of State Services (DSS) was cautioned on Monday by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to handle their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, with caution.
The claim made by the secret police that Kanu was refused access to guests due of the off-cycle governor’s races in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States last Saturday was refuted by IPOB.
Emma Powerful, the group’s spokesperson, stated last Thursday that Kanu was not allowed to see guests by the secret police.
In a written declaration, he accused the DSS of seeking to torture and make life miserable for Kanu.
The statement reads, “The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our prophet and supreme leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, raises alarm over the denial and harassment of our Leader’s visitors by DSS headquarters’ staff in Abuja,” Powerful said.
“On Thursday, November 9, 2023, DSS refused Mazi Nnamdi Kanu access to his visitors based on a flimsy excuse.
“The Abuja DSS’s claim of not having enough personnel to handle the logistics for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s visitors due to the elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi States as a reason for denying Mazi Nnamdi Kanu access to his weekly visitors is ridiculously laughable.
“Our leader was allowed visitors to see him at the DSS solitary confinement and detention facility during the general elections for President, Governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly. So, why should DSS deny Mazi Nnamdi KANU visits because of governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states?
“This is a calculated attempt to torture and complicate matters for Mazi Nnamdi KANU. The DSS’s justification for denying our leader visitation as directed by the court is questionable. As a result, we warn DSS to use caution while dealing with our leader’s issues.
“We do not anticipate any excuses or selective visitors for our leader in the future. IPOB and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu are aware of the ruses employed by the Janjaweed-controlled DSS and the Fulani administration of Nigeria”, Power stated further.
