Jose Peseiro has played poorly for the Super Eagles, but NFF Chief Nse Essien has explained why they cannot fire him.
Since joining the Super Eagles, Peseiro has managed 13 games, winning just six of them. It appears that the team is not making any progress at all.
However, Nse Essien, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation, claimed that since they weren’t even involved in his appointment, they had no other options.
Peseiro was appointed by the Sports Ministry and receives about $70,000 per month. If we sack him who would pay him off.
In a statement below Essien reveals critically what the situation would be like to sack Super Eagles handler Jose Peseiro
We should have six points from two games, but we only have two,” Essien said to OJB Sports.
We’ve placed ourselves in a really challenging predicament. You claim that the NFF should fire the coach, but we didn’t hire him.
Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the sports ministry hired him. They ought to have paid his salary, but they haven’t given him a single cent as of yet.
If you sack the coaches now, who pays the compensation? Not a dime has been paid to this coach, who earns around $70,000 every month. If you sack him, you leave us with the responsibilities, and Nigerians will also crucify us.
βWe have to respect his contract, but if we had the money to give him, why wouldnβt we relieve him because we are not happy.β
With the above statement it is unlikely Peseiro would be sacked barring any unforeseen circumstances.
This would see the Portuguese gaffer expected to lead Super Eagles to next year’s AFCON Showpiece where they would face Host Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea in the group stages.
