Ravel Morrison, a former star of the Manchester United academy, was found guilty of fraud and fined £1000 after he was seen parking his car using someone else’s blue badge.
On Thursday, December 1, Morrison appeared in a city magistrates court and admitted guilt to one count of fraud.
He received a penalty ticket for parking his Audi A3 on Bridgewater Street in Deansgate, and later that year, the car was seized.
Parking wardens found that Morrison had used a blue parking badge that belonged to someone who had passed away in February 2022, therefore it was no longer valid.
His Audi was given a ticket and then taken to a parking impound before being retrieved by Morrison later in the day.
The 30-year-old explained in an interview under caution that he purchased the blue badge from ‘someone in Old Trafford’ for £50, Manchester City Council said.
Blue badge passes are given to individuals suffering with disabilities or health conditions and permit them to park closer to their destination in car parks.
In addition to his fine, Morrison was also told to pay costs of £508 and a victim surcharge of £400.
A representative for Manchester City Council commented following the decision, saying: “This ruling demonstrates that the law is applicable to everyone, with no exceptions.”
“I am appreciative of our investigating officers’ and attorneys’ hard work in pursuing this case to a successful conclusion.”
“Our officers are out on the streets every day making sure that blue badges are being used properly, and we won’t hold back when we find people attempting to break the law.”
