Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asserted that Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State did not sign the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu.
The development comes after reports circulated that Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike signed a peace agreement at the Presidential Villa on Monday during a meeting with the President.
However, in a statement on Tuesday, Eze contended, “Governor Fubara didn’t sign the agreement as he signed the unwise pact with a black biro instead of a red biro as expected of him as a Governor so such signing has no bearing as the pact is unimplementable.”
Eze raised questions about the document, alleging that the handwriting appeared consistent throughout, suggesting that the document was prepared before the meeting concluded.
He also criticized the terms of the peace agreement, deeming them unconstitutional, illegal, undemocratic, and an attempt to curtail governance in Rivers State.
Highlighting the inadequacies of the agreement, Eze stated, “The agreement failed woefully to address the major issues that brought up this conflict.”
He specifically pointed to the interference of the FCT minister in the state’s governance and the alleged disrespect of Governor Fubara, asserting that these issues remained unaddressed.
Moreover, Eze accused President Tinubu of attempting to usurp judicial powers, expressing strong condemnation of the agreement’s directives regarding the status of defected lawmakers. He urged Governor Fubara to consult widely before taking any further action.
