On Saturday, a gas explosion destroyed goods and assets worth millions of naira at a market located at Council Bus Stop along Egbeda-Ikotun Road, Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State.
As a result, the inferno caused a commotion as shopkeepers and commuters fled for safety.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, acknowledged the event in a statement, stating that the department received an emergency call about the fire at about 2 p.m.
According to Adeseye, the fire was started by a gas cylinder leak in one of the shops, which triggered an explosion that spread to several other stores.
She went on to say that the fire had been put out and that attempts were being made to keep it from spreading.
