After Release Of Abducted Ekiti Pupils, Oyebanji Renews Vow To Battle Insecurity

The Biodun Oyebanji-led government in Ekiti State has again assured residents of adequate security to their lives and property.

The State Commissioner for Information, Rt.Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun who gave the assurance in Ado Ekiti while featuring on a radio current affairs programme, “Issues in the News”, reiterated the commitment of the Biodun Oyebanji administration to the safety and general wellbeing of people in the State.

 

Olatunbosun stressed that security had been further beefed up across the State following the unfortunate killing of the two traditional rulers in the Ikole Axis of Ekiti on Monday, January 29, 2024 and the abduction of five school children, three teachers and their driver around Emure Ekiti on the same day.

 

He attributed the quick release of the School pupils and their teachers to the swift intervention of Governor Oyebanji, adding that consequent upon the Governor’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police and all Service Chiefs; security agencies, community security outfits and local vigilantes swung into action and have made remarkable accomplishments in combing the bushes harboring the criminal and dismantling their bases.

 

Olatunbosun said that the deployment of Police helicopter, Armored Personnel Carriers, IRT and STS operatives, and Police Mobile Force personnel also augmented the efforts already put in place by Governor Oyebanji to rid the State of criminals and end all forms of criminality in the State.

 

Giving an update on the condition of the freed school children and their teachers, the Government spokesman said that they were stable, adding that the Governor had however directed the Chief Medical director of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) to ensure that the victims were adequately catered for, including treating them for post-traumatic stress disorder in order to totally eliminated undue adverse effect of the unfortunate encounter.

 

Reiterating the zero tolerance of the present administration to all forms of criminality, the Commissioner highlighted some of the Governor’s past interventions to include purchase and distribution of two units of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), 10 patrol trucks, Helmet Level 3A, bulletproof vests Level 4, tactical boots and batons.

 

Others include completion of the Emergency Command Centre (ECC) to provide a central point for incident reporting and overhauling of the State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Operation Amotekun to ensure an end to insecurity.

 

He urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant security agencies for prompt action, stressing that prevention of crime must be seen as a collective responsibility and simple and timely provision of information may be all the intelligence needed to save lives.
