Popular rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, took to Instagram to criticize sportswear giant Adidas, accusing them of releasing “fake” Yeezys.
This comes after Adidas terminated its partnership with Ye in October 2022 following an antisemitic tirade on social media.
Ye, visibly upset with the new Yeezy designs, particularly the steel grey-toned version of the Yeezy 350 V2, claimed in his posts that Adidas was attempting to “rape” him over the new releases and accused the company of not compensating him for the sales.
The fallout between Ye and Adidas escalated further as he asserted in a video post that Adidas is suing him for $250 million, alleging the use of contract clauses and decades of business experience to exploit an artist.
Adidas, in July 2023, accused Ye of mishandling $75 million in marketing funds and is seeking retrieval through private arbitration.
Despite the severed partnership, Ye insists he is entitled to royalties from Yeezy sales, reportedly receiving 15% in royalties.
Adidas announced plans to sell its remaining $300 million Yeezy stock, with proceeds directed towards charities such as the Anti-Defamation League and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change.
Adidas has yet to respond to the recent claims made by Ye, adding more intrigue to the ongoing saga between the rapper and the sportswear giant.
