Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State on Tuesday, expressed the confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will retain all positions in the April 27, 2024 Local Government Elections due to the unprecedented achievements of his administration across the state.

Governor Makinde, who charged the people of the state to vote en masse for all PDP candidates, said the government at the grassroots will toe the line of his government in delivering sustainable development.

The governor stated this at Ode Oba, Iseyin, where he presented the flags to the PDP chairmanship candidates in Iseyin Federal Constituency, saying: “I congratulate the chairmen and the vice chairmen in advance. I believe our people will vote massively for them.”

The governor, while expressing confidence that the PDP candidates would come out victorious, considering his government’s unprecedented achievements in Oke-Ogun Zone and the state in general, urged residents of the state to go out in their numbers to vote, because it is their civic duty.

“Those who said we are planning to write results, can you see them campaigning? They are not. As for us, we will go out en masse, vote and elect our candidates.

“I am in Oke-Ogun Zone I today. When we said we wanted to do the Moniya-Iseyin Road in 2019, didn’t we do it? Yes, we did. From there, we told the contractor to face Oyo-Iseyin road and he did. After that, we started the Iseyin to Ogbomoso and that was also done.

“I said in 2019 that we would facilitate the establishment of a higher institution in Iseyin and we fulfilled that promise.

“For eight years, the only road the last administration did in the whole Oke-Ogun zone is just the road within Iseyin and they didn’t do another one. That was just a 6.5km road. So, what do they want to point to while campaigning to you ahead of this council election? Nothing.

“Now, let me tell you what this government will do. After commissioning the Ogbomoso to Iseyin road, the only road remaining will be that of Iseyin to Igboora. As we do that, we will also fix Okeho to Iganna at the same time.

“We have started from Ijio to Iwere-Ile and the road will link Ilero through Otu to Alaga so that our agricultural belt will be linked together. Now, let them come out and promise what they want to do.”

While presenting flags to the chairmanship candidates of the four local governments in the federal constituency, Governor Makinde equally charged all party members to unite and work together for the success of the PDP in the elections.

He assured party faithful that their labour would not be in vain, as according to him, their efforts towards the progress of the party will be duly rewarded.

“Let me assure you once again that we won’t forget your efforts. All our efforts towards the progress of the PDP will be rewarded. We will continue to do the needful at the same level to make sure that our people are happy.

“As for those expecting appointments, you won’t need to wait for long again as the time is nigh.”

The candidates are: Mr Fadiran Rasaq, Iseyin Local Government; Mr Ojo Monsuru, Itesiwaju Local Government; Hon. Akeem Mustapha, Kajola Local Government, and Mr Oyewunmi Murtala, Iwajowa Local Government.

In their separate goodwill messages, the state PDP chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, who spoke through the deputy state chairman, James Olukunle, and a former PDP state chairman, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, lauded Governor Makinde for his various people-oriented programmes.

The event had in attendance PDP leaders in the state, including Chief Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor; Senator Gbenga Babalola; former PDP state chairman, Chief Michael Adegbite; Barr. Adeniyi Farinto; Pa Oyedeji and Hon. Shina Peller, among others.
