Germany open Euro 2024 with resounding win against Scotland

Germany began their Euro 2024 campaign in devastating fashion as they thrashed Scotland 5-1 at the Allianz Arena Friday night.

Germany took the lead through Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, Florian Wirtz, who zipped the ball gone from a Kai Havertz layoff.

Nigerian-born Jamal Musiala doubled the lead with a cracking shot as Havertz assisted the goal again.

Havertz then converted a penalty after a VAR check on a foul inside the box.

Scotland were reduced to 10 men when Ryan Porteous was sent off for a lunge on Ilkay Gundogan.

Second half substitute, Niklas Fullkrug, let fly a powerful shot into top right corner seconds after he replaced Havertz.

Another substitute, Emre Can, grabbed the fifth of the night but it could have been more, had Fullkrug not had a goal ruled out for offside earlier.

Scotland had a consolation through an Antonio Rudiger own goal.
