Luka Jovic salvaged a draw for Serbia as he scored a last-gasp goal in an enthralling 1-1 draw against Slovenia Thursday in both sides’ second Group C games.
Slovenia were defensively disciplined and denied the Serbians of multiple scoring opportunities with former Fulham striker Alexander Mitrovic coming close to scoring thrice – twice denied by Jan Oblak and the post albeit with pressure from the Slovenian defenders
Slovenian right back Zan Karnicnik began a flowing move and finished with aplomb with 20 minutes left on the clock and seemed to be heading to the third game next week in good stead.
The Serbians persisted and they got their reward with virtually the last kick of the game in the 95th minute when former Eintracht Frankfurt striker Jovic headed home from a corner kick in the ground he knows too well.
Both sides will face Denmark and England respectively in their last group game and require wins to advance to the round of 16.
