The Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has directed operational commanders of the Kano State Police Command to implement stringent measures aimed at enhancing public safety.

This is in response to the onset of the rainy season and the associated security challenge in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the CP revealed this during a strategic meeting held at the Bompai Police Headquarters on July 1st, 2024.

CP Dogo emphasized the importance of proactive security measures:

He said, “Rainy seasons historically bring unique security challenges, and it is imperative that we enhance our operational readiness to safeguard the public.”

He further instructed operational commanders to ensure round-the-clock visibility patrols and prompt responses to emergency situations.

Additionally, effective traffic control measures were mandated to facilitate safe movement amidst adverse weather conditions.

Acknowledging the role of media in fostering public awareness, CP Dogo commended local media stations for their cooperation and urged the Public Relations Unit of the Command to intensify public enlightenment campaigns.

“We appreciate the collaboration of media outlets in our efforts to educate the public on security precautions during the rainy season,” he added.

In line with these directives, the Kano State Police Command issued essential security tips for residents.

“Be cautious of flooding and avoid travel through flooded areas.

“Exercise caution on wet roads and reduce speed while driving.

“Minimize outdoor activities during heavy rains to mitigate visibility challenges and potential accidents,” CP Dogo cautioned.

He added that residents should ensure regular maintenance of vehicles, including lights, brakes, and wipers.

CP Dogo extended gratitude to the law-abiding citizens of Kano State for their continued support and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency contact numbers and digital platforms.

“We rely on the vigilance of our community members to enhance public safety,” he added.
