The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old, Gbadegeshin Olakunle, for allegedly defiling and sexually grooming a minor at Kings Avenue, Ojodu Abiodun, in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered from a police source, who was privy to the incident but was not allowed to speak officially, on Sunday, that Olakunle was arrested after the minor confessed that she was defiled by him.

It was said that the minor’s mother observed some suspicious acts developed by her daughter whenever she was sent on an errand in the neighbourhood.

The victim’s mother said her daughter stayed longer, which got her worried and made her decide to monitor her movements for safety purposes. On Friday, this curiosity made her contact the minor’s school authority after she left home for work.

Our correspondent learnt that the woman was disappointed when she inquired about her daughter’s activities at school but was informed that she was absent, which prompted her to leave work for home.

When she arrived home to place her on the watch, her minor showed up along the road. After several interrogations, she confessed to her mother that Olakunle allegedly lured her into his apartment twice to have carnal knowledge, on June 8 and July 11.

According to the source, the victim’s mother reported the case to operatives of the Ojodu Abiodun Police Division, who swung into action by visiting the suspect’s house to arrest him.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and said that an interrogation had commenced and that the victim had gone for medical examination.

“After the case was reported to the police, Olakunle was trailed, arrested and brought to the station for interrogation. The victim was also taken to Mirabel Centre at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for medical examination and reports.

“The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweeran Abeokuta, for a discreet investigation,” Odutola said.
