As creatives, not everyone gets to be at the forefront of the camera, and recognised for their work—Nigerian choreographer, Ikenna Onyekwere is such.

Ikenna, popularly known as 1ikenna, is undeniably the mastermind of the dance choreography in popular Afrobeats music videos. The chemical Engineering graduate made his foray into dance choreography in 2012.

Recognising the works of the passionate dancer and choreographer, Trybenews, in March, shared some Afrobeats choreography Ikenna directed.

“Ikenna started his choreographic career in 2012 and then founded his dance team, tmGreatness, as a way to carve a niche for himself in the industry.

“Today, he is behind the choreography for some of the biggest and most recognizable music videos that have come out of Nigeria in the last 3 years.” it wrote.

The journey for Ikenna has been from a place of passion and love for what he does. The standards he has put into it is another commendable feat.

From Wizkid’s ‘IDK’ to Asake’s ‘Amapiano’ and Kizz Daniel’s ‘Odo’, Ikenna has solidified his niche as a reputable dance choreographer.

Other works he has contributed to include Burna Boy’s ‘Giza’, Yemi Alade’s ‘True Love’ and many others.

Truly, Ikenna, despite working behind the scenes, has a significant impact in today’s Afrobeats development through music visualisation and dance.
