The timeline for compiling the results of the Edo State governorship election has been released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The delay in compiling the results has alarmed electorates and political party stakeholders.
It is important to note that the primary location for election collation is the INEC headquarters in Benin, the capital of Edo.
Nonetheless, collation will begin by 10 am, according to a statement made by INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Anugbum Onuoha on Sunday morning.
Onuoha promised that INEC would run the election in a transparent manner and chastised politicians for failing to uphold law and order.
This is to inform the general public, Political Stakeholders, and observers that the Collation of results for the ongoing Edo State Governors Election will resume today (Sunday), 22nd September 2024, at 10:00 am.
“The Collation process is being conducted transparently and by the extant laws and guidelines of the Independent National. Electoral Commission (INEC). We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the parties as we strive to ensure a credible and accurate outcome of this important Election.
“We urge all stakeholders to maintain peace and order as we conclude the collation process. INEC remains committed to delivering a free, fair, and transparent Election in Edo State,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, a tensed situation unfolded around 4:10 a.m. when Governor Godwin Obaseki was escorted out of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, premises in Benin by Deputy Inspector General, DIG, of Police, Frank Mba.
Governor Obaseki reportedly entered the premises at approximately 2 a.m., unannounced, allegedly to express concerns over perceived irregularities in the collation of results from certain local government areas, including his own, Oredo.
