MINISTER of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has urged workers to shun corruption to enjoy a peaceful retirement free of invitations from anti-graft agencies.

He noted that corruption; abuse of office, dishonesty, breaking rules, immorality, among others, were  major hindrances to development.

Fashola spoke at a sensitisation seminar for officers on corruption in the public service, with the theme: “Corruption Trends in Public Service, Causes  and Impact on National Development”

Represented by the minisry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Blessings Lere-Adams, he said:  “Corruption is crime and you must shun it in a bid to live a peaceful retirement life devoid of incessant invitations from anti-corruption agencies after retirement.

‘’Adopting a corrupt free attitude in the course of duty would enhance Nigeria’s development,” he stressed.

 A facilitator from Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Matters Commission (ICPC), Mrs. Adebimpe Abodunrin, urged workers to show good character as the public service was the major index used in ranking corrupt nations by Transparency International and other global bodies.

Another facilitator from ICPC, Mrs. Joy Ebbah, called on the ministry’s Anti-Corruption  and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to review and update its code of ethics.

She noted that nations have failed due to workers’ failure to abide by ethical rules and exhibiting transparency and obedience.
