Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared that his administration will not play around with the welfare of the state’s workforce or its citizens as a whole.

During a protest over the elimination of fuel subsidies, representatives of organized labor and civil society organizations flocked to the State Secretariat in Abere, where Governor Adeleke delivered the guarantee.

Speaking through his deputy, Kola Adewusi, Adeleke stated that the government has established a committee to address the impact of the loss of subsidies, and that steps were underway to mitigate its effects.

“I am grateful for the labor unions’ nonviolent behavior throughout the demonstration. Nothing will be done to violate your rights.

“I call on residents of the state ate to keep faith with God and believe in the ability of the Ademola Adeleke’s administration to turn things around for the better.”

Earlier the Secretary Nigeria Labour Congress, Osun Council, Victor Amusan explained that organised labour frowned at the inability of the Federal Government to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy on workers.

Amusan said that the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy has led to geometric increase in prices of goods and services thus making life unbearable for workers.

He however appreciated Governor Ademola Adeleke for showcasing himself as workers’ friendly.

“The governor should roll out palliatives to workers without further delay. The reality of cost of living is not in support of the present income of an average worker,” Amusan appealed.

Organised labour in Osun and the Osun Civil Societies Organisation had on Wednesday embarked on a protest in Osogbo.

The protest which started at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Osogbo went though major streets of the state capital and culminates at the Osun State Secretariat, Abere.
