The election for the Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal Constituency held on February 25, 2023, was declared inconclusive by the National Assembly Election Tribunal, which is located in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Adamu Yakubu won the race with 39,998 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Magaji Da’u, who received 36,735, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, Da’u appealed the election results to the National Assembly electoral tribunal.

The margin of cancelled votes outnumbered the winning votes, which caused the three-person tribunal, presided over by Justice A. A. Okeke, to declare the election inconclusive.

Webteam@ipledge2nigeria learned that the number of PVCs collected at the eight polling units was 6,351 and the margin between the winner and the APC candidate was 926 votes.

Delivering the judgement, the tribunal chairman, said there is clear evidence that INEC did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 in conducting the election and declaring the result.

The tribunal, therefore, declared the election of Birnin Kudu/Buji federal constituency inconclusive and ordered the INEC to conduct a re-run election on eight polling units within 90 days.
