The Federal Government has completed plans to train two million young people in digital skills, working with WEMA Bank.
This program is in line with the Federal Government’s commitment to promote job creation efforts under the Tinubu administration, according to a statement made by Mr. Olusola Abiola, the Director of Information at the Office of the Vice President.
“WEMA Bank, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President, has solidified arrangements to launch an initiative aimed at benefiting two million youths and one million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide.”
During a courtesy visit to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Mr. Moruf Oseni, the Managing Director of the bank, provided an update on the program’s progress.
“The delegation visited the Villa to update the Vice President on the implementation of the FGN-ALAT Digital Skill-Novation Programme, a collaborative effort between the government and the bank, with the objective of training two million youths and empowering one million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across Nigeria.”
Shettima commended the bank’s commitment and partnership in this endeavor, saying, “I urge you to maintain high standards. You are a reputable organization, and I sincerely thank you for your initiative. Rest assured, we will fulfill our part of the agreement.”
In an interview with State House correspondents, the bank’s MD, Mr. Oseni, shared their discussion with Vice President Shettima.
“The Vice President expressed great satisfaction, and his office will soon provide details on how we plan to advance this program. Part of our effort includes establishing innovation hubs nationwide.”
He also emphasized the importance of President’s economic revival plan, stating, “If Nigeria succeeds, financial institutions thrive. President’s vision is on track, and we wholeheartedly support his administration.”
Additionally, Mr. Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, highlighted the significance of this collaboration.
“Collaboration is powerful. When the private and public sectors unite, they can achieve more for the people. President’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda requires the collective effort of both sectors. Initially, they agreed to partner with us on skills acquisition and other aspects of our planned scheme.”The FGN/ALAT Digital Skill-Novation Programme is scheduled to be formally launched by the Vice President on September 29th at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja
