A total of eleven vehicles including two tankers, a tipper truck, three trailers, three cars and two micro-mini buses (Korope) have been consumed in the fire explosion involving a tanker carrying PMS at House number 229, Moshood Abiola Way, Opposite Fashola Estate on Thursday night.

Ipledge2nigeria.net learned that one of the tankers crashed on the trailer with detergent and Sardine, while other vehicles ran onto the first two crashed vehicles.

     

 

According to first responders, all occupants and drivers of all vehicles jumped into safety before the product went up in flames.

Confirming the incident, Adeseye Margaret Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said: “The raging Fire has been curtailed as the dampening of pockets of Fire continues to allow for investigation to reveal the cause and the evacuation of the carcass to bring about normalcy.”

“No life and no injuries recorded as occupants escaped unhurt.”

However, residents and road users within the axis have been urged to employ urgent public safety measures.

Advising residents and commuters, Ibrahim Farinloye, Zonal Coordinator South West, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said: “Residents of Moshood Abiola Way through Sifax down to Ijora Underbridge to Apapa are urgently being implored to suspend the use of naked fire at the moment.

“This is because, in the process of evacuating the tankers, PMS products are spilling into the drainages moving towards their communities.

“At the same, no one is advised to use the streams and tributaries of any rivers for washing or bathing.

The Fire Services are presently carrying blanketing to make the product ineffective.

“Utmost Cautions are highly advised please, Farinloye added.

In a related development, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also mitigated spillage from a 33,000 liters tanker which accidentally lost control while conveying Diesel outward Lagos Capital Oil Filling Station, Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Berger, Lagos on Thursday evening.

The accident which impeded free vehicular movement caused terrible traffic in the area as fuel scoopers tried to disrupt the operations of police officers managing the situation.

Ipledge2nigeria.net gathered that the tanker also trapped a 14-seater company’s bus whose three occupants had been safely evacuated with neither injury nor death.
