Peseiro To Nigerians: Super Eagles’ll Score Against Cameroon

Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro has assured Nigerians that his team will start scoring goals following their qualification to the round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Eagles will face Group C runners-up Cameroon and Peseiro is confident his side would score against them.

Nigeria progressed to the last 16 of the tournament after finishing second in Group following their 1-0 victory over Guinea Bissau in their last group game on Monday.

An Opa Sangante’s 37th-minute own goal at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium was the difference as Joseiro Peseiro’s men recorded their second win at the AFCON.

In the game against the Wild Dogs, the Eagles had five shots with none on target.

Against Ivory Coast, in their second group game, they had seven shots with just one of them hitting target and eventually went in.

In their 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria had 13 shots with seven of those shots on target but surprisingly they only converted one.

With only three goals scored from three games in the group stage, despite boasting one of the most exciting attacks at this tournament, there has been cause for concern among fans.

Speaking ahead of their next game, the Portuguese tactician said his team would start scoring.

“For the next match, we’re going to score,” Peseiro said.

“It is important for us to score goals, but it’s a difficult tournament. We deserve to reach the first position because against Equatorial Guinea, we created many chances, but we didn’t score. Equatorial Guinea did not beat us, they drew us.

“I’m happy about that, and I’ll wait for the next match. It’s not easy to win one match in this competition. It’s not easy.”

“First objective attained! With two wins and one draw and with no goals conceded in the last two matches, we are in the last 16 of the AFCON.

“Next Saturday, we will be there with the same focus, determination and commitment so that we can move to the quarter-finals.”
