Okpala To Osimhen: Concentrate On AFCON, Quit Social Media

Former Nigeria international defender, Sylvanus Okpala, has expressed satisfaction with the current form of Super Eagles’ striker Victor Osimhen at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, adding the Napoli striker would score more goals with due concentration without recourse to the social media.

Osimhen opened Nigeria’s goal account at the AFCON in the 1-1draw against Equatorial Guinea and he ensured the team got the winner in the 1-0 defeat of Cote d’Ivoire as he was upended for the penalty that was scored by captain Troost-Ekong.

“I am Impressed with Osimhen’s performance so far,” Okpala, a member of the 1980 Green Eagles’ squad that won Nigeria’s first AFCON title, told Brila FM.

He, however, emphasized the need for Osimhen to stay away from social media and concentrate on the game even as he encouraged the former Lille striker not to give in to pressure of scoring goals.

He continued: “I am impressed with what he(Osimhen) has done so far. I would rather like him not to be going to social media anymore to listen to what people are saying. He should just take his phone and drop it somewhere so that he can concentrate.”

The former Green Eagles defender stressed that Osimhen doesn’t need to create unnecessary anxiety for himself as the team’s star player.

He expressed satisfaction with Osimhen’s contributions so far and encouraged him to remain calm while keeping his goal scoring form in mind.
