Goalkeeper Nwabali’s Injury: Super Eagles Await Scan Result

Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro has confirmed that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has underwent  scans on a suspected knee injury suffered during Saturday night’s Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Cameroon.

However, the Portuguese  said he would love to see Stanley Nwabali in goal for Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals clash against Angola.

Nwabali sustained  the   knee injury after colliding with Cameroon winger Georges Nkoudou during Saturday’s round of 16 clash and  was replaced by Fransis Uzoho after he was stretchered off the pitch.

Meanwhile, Nwabali  yesterday underwent a scan to determine the severity of a knee injury he suffered and  the result of the scan is now being awaited.

Nationsport reports that Nwabali trained alone during the team’s training session yesterday at École Nationale de la Police, Abidjan while the rest of the team  trained ahead of Friday’s quarterfinal against Angola.

Friday’s game will kick off from 6pm at the Houphouët Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The winners of this tie will take on the winners of another quarterfinal between Cape Verde and either Morocco or South Africa, who come face-to-face today in a Round of 16 clash.

Peseiro said in an interview that he has other players that can do the job if Nwabali fail to recover on time for the game.

“If he’s okay he will be in the next match but If he is not available we have other players that will do the job. I wish he recovers for next match because all the players know him,” Peseiro said.
