The Nigeria Education Loan Fund has announced that students in federal tertiary institutions would be the first to access the Students’ Loan portal, which is scheduled to launch formally on Friday, May 24, 2024.
This development was communicated today, May 20, 2024, at a Pre-Application Sensitization Press Conference in Abuja by Akintunde Sawyerr, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Fund.
This is in line with the Fund’s announcement that the only students who can apply for the loan are those whose schools have uploaded their data to its dashboard.
He claimed that the first phase of the programme would assist 1.2 million students from universities, polytechnics, institutes of education, and technical colleges owned by the federal government.
Akintunde Sawyerr stated that students at state universities and career skills centres would apply at a later time, while urging students in federal tertiary institutions to visit the website, www.nelf.gov.ng, to apply starting on May 24.
According to him, to apply, one must have the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board admission letter, a valid National Identity Number, a bank verification number, and a filled-out online application.
“Applicants can access online support to assist with any questions or concerns during the application process”, Sawyerr said at the press conference.
“We believe that education is a vital investment for the future. We envisage that the student loan initiative of Mr. President is a testament to this commitment”, he continued.
In addition to urging candidates to submit their applications as soon as possible to ensure timely processing, he encouraged students in federal higher institutions to take advantage of this chance to acquire the necessary financial aid for their education.
