Real Madrid on Saturday won their 15th European title as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 with goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicious Jnr in the 2023/2024 final at the Wembley stadium
Goals were at premium in the first half but there were no shortage of chances created which largely went the way of Borussia Dortmund.
Real Madrid had more of the ball possessions but the Germans created better chances with the trio of Karim Adeyemi, Niclas Fullkrug and Julian Brandt missing golden chances albeit Thibaut Courtois in goal for Madrid earned his stripes with some important saves.
Real’s attacking endeavours were limited to a couple of shots from range.
Fullkrug saw the ball palmed away by Courtois in the 62nd minute from his header but Real Madrid seemed not to be in their scoring element either with an hour played.
Vinicius Junior floated the ball into the Dortmund area but Jude Bellingham who was positioned to pounce on it was caught in two minds as he was put under pressure. The ball went out of touch.
Karim Adeyemi was subbed off in the 72nd minute for Marco Reus but two minutes ater the Nigeria-born German international left the pitch, Dani Crvajal scored the game’s opening goal.
Jude Bellingham could not tuck away the second goal of the night for Madrid as he glided his effort narrowly wide off target from close range.
The chances that eluded the La Liga champions kept on poring from the the moment the goal was scored onwards.
Vinicious Junior made it 2-0 for Real Madrid in the 83rd minute when he was fed by Jude Bellingham who himself profited from a sloppy clearance from Ian Matseen.
Fullkrug thought he had scored with less than four minutes to full time but the assistant referee’s flag cut short his joy and that of the entire Dortmund side for offside.
Carlo Ancelotti brought on Eder Militao for Rodrygo as he sought defensive backing in the last minute of the game and they saw off the game grabbing their 15th Euroepan title.
