The Federal Road Safety Corps has flagged off an inter-agency joint task force to curb vehicle and road accidents during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

Speaking with newsmen, the state commander of the FRSC, Oyo State Command, Commander Roseline Alo said that the agency is fully prepared to curb the menace of road accidents and arrest any traffic offender violating road safety measures in the state.

“FRSC has been battling with the menace of trailer drivers conveying human goods and animals on the road at the same time, and this deadly road use behavior has led to unpredicted crashes on the highway.

“This has led to the flagging off of the Inter-Agency Joint Task Force to enforce compliance against the use of trailers to convey passengers as well as mitigate road traffic crashes and injuries emanating from the lawlessness of trailers drivers”.

She further stated that the agency is aware of the challenges confronting road users while stating that the command will not rest on its oars until road accidents are reduced to the minimum in the state.

“The recent development on the road reveals some of the challenges confronting safe use of the highways, which the Corps has stepped up to confront on all fronts. These challenges include the ugly trend of using trailers and trucks to convey human beings, night trips, and speed violations and driving under the influence of alcohol,” she said.

Commander Alo further stated that the agency has commenced an aggressive sensitization campaign for all road users to adhere to safety measures on the highways, stating that this year’s Eid-El-Kabir special patrol of the agency swung into action on June 14th.

Present at the event included Oyo State National Orientation Agency Director, Dr Kemi Afolayan, members of the special marshal of the FRSC and senior members of the Corp in the State.
